Expansion marks the one-year anniversary of Brooklyn Basketball’s first Training Center and broadens year-round programming, school partnerships and player development opportunities for Brooklyn youth

BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment today announced a significant expansion of Brooklyn Basketball, the official youth basketball program of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty. Brooklyn Basketball will soon expand its school programming to include high school students, introduce additional league and competitive opportunities, and launch a new Community Partner Program. In 2027, Brooklyn Basketball will open three new locations across Brooklyn, creating more opportunities for young people and families to participate in the game and connect with the Brooklyn Basketball community year-round.

The expansion builds on Brooklyn Basketball’s growing impact across the borough. Through its school and community programming, Brooklyn Basketball has engaged more than 50,000 young people annually through its free clinics and programming in more than 250 New York City schools. Since opening in September 2025, the Brooklyn Basketball Training Center in Downtown Brooklyn has welcomed more than 16,000 people and served as a home for After-School Clubs, camps, clinics and community events.

“Brooklyn Basketball was created to expand access to the game for young people across our borough, and the impact we have seen over the past year reinforces the importance of continuing to grow that access,” said Marissa Shorenstein, Chief Operating Officer, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment. “As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Brooklyn Basketball’s first Training Center, we are proud to build on the more than 50,000 young people we reach through our school and community programming by bringing more opportunities directly into Brooklyn neighborhoods. This expansion reflects our long-term commitment to the community and our belief that every young person should have the opportunity to participate, learn and grow through sport.”

Opening in 2027, the new locations in Greenpoint, Bushwick and Gowanus (formerly operated by The BK Post as court rentals), will bring more programming directly into Brooklyn neighborhoods and create additional entry points for young people and families. The locations will serve as homes for Brooklyn Basketball’s After-School Club, community programming, camps, clinics and other year-round basketball experiences.

The expansion will also support the continuation and growth of Brooklyn Basketball’s After-School Club, a year-round program built around consistent coaching, progressive training and competition. Beginning this fall at the Downtown Brooklyn Training Center location, the new Performance Track will offer three sessions per week focused on skill development, team practice and Saturday game days, along with league play, tournaments, playoffs and championship opportunities. The program will continue to offer a Skills Track focused on fundamentals and individual development.

Brooklyn Basketball’s programming is built around a progressive curriculum developed in collaboration with the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty. Through the Player Pathway, athletes advance through four development levels based on skill growth, decision-making, and readiness rather than age alone. Led by USA Basketball-certified coaches, the program uses game-based instruction to develop confident, adaptable players while emphasizing care, a growth mindset, integrity and accountability, helping young people build skills and character both on and off the court.

Brooklyn Basketball is also expanding access through its school and community partnerships. Following several years of providing free in-school basketball clinics for elementary and middle school students through a partnership with the New York City Department of Education, the program will expand to include educational programming for high school students. Brooklyn Basketball will also partner with the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) to provide additional opportunities for student athletes across New York City.

To deepen its connection with organizations across the borough, Brooklyn Basketball will launch a Community Partner Program. Through the yearlong initiative, selected local organizations will partner with Brooklyn Basketball for open-to-community clinics and receive additional resources, including equipment, coaching education, Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty experiences, an annual grant and other opportunities designed to support their ongoing work in the community.

Together, the new locations, expanded DOE and PSAL partnerships, enhanced After-School Club offerings and continued investment in the community will create a broader network of opportunities for young people to access basketball across Brooklyn. From introductory clinics and community programming to structured player development and competitive experiences, Brooklyn Basketball is building a connected pathway for the next generation of players throughout the borough.
