Joe Tsai is the governor of the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and chairman of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, which includes the Brooklyn Nets, the team's home arena Barclays Center, and the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League.

Tsai is also the owner of the New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), and the San Diego Seals and Las Vegas Desert Dogs, professional indoor lacrosse teams in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). His sports investments include the Premier Lacrosse League, Los Angeles FC of Major League Soccer, and several sports media and technology companies in North America, Europe and Asia.

Tsai is one of the co-founders of Alibaba Group, a global internet technology company based in China founded in 1999. He has been a member of the board of directors since its inception and currently serves as chairman. Tsai previously served as chief financial officer and executive vice chairman, overseeing strategic mergers, acquisitions and investments.

Tsai played high school football and lacrosse at The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey. At Yale University, he walked on to the varsity lacrosse team and played for four years. He has been a consistent supporter of Yale men's and women's lacrosse programs and received the George H.W. Bush '48 Lifetime of Leadership Award in 2017.

Through the Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation, Tsai and his wife Clara Wu Tsai support initiatives in education, research, social justice, economic mobility, the arts and humanitarian relief. He is a founding board member of The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), launched in 2021 to combat hate and discrimination and support AAPI communities.

Tsai is a member of the J.P. Morgan International Council, EXOR Partners Council, and the International Advisory Council of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He is also a trustee of The Lawrenceville School. Prior to Alibaba, Tsai worked in private equity and tax law. He holds a B.A. from Yale College and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
